The
cemetery where the pioneers of Fort
Worth, Texas lie at rest. Pioneers
Rest Cemetery contains a
complete list of burials from Fort
Worth's oldest community cemetery
dating back to 1849. It is a
compilation of burial information of
the historical Pioneers Rest
Cemetery in Fort Worth, Tarrant
County, Texas. The information has
been taken from the headstones and
records of the Pioneers Rest
Cemetery Association. Added
obituaries from Fort Worth papers
and biographical information were
gleaned from newspapers and family
members. This book has a complete
full name index and will be valuable
to the researchers of early Fort
Worth and Tarrant County.
A
committee comprised of Fort Worth
Genealogical Society members walked
the cemetery and copied every stone.
They made notes of sites without
stones. The listing of the cemetery
is by lot and block so that those
persons searching for a gravesite
will have a guide.
Many
years after the first burials in
1850, the Pioneers Rest Cemetery
Association was formally organized.
In 1870, a lot and block map was
drafted and filed in the Tarrant
County Court House. A copy of this
map is included.
Photographs
of selected monuments can be found
in the special picture section.
Descendants of some of the early
families were contacted and have
been very helpful in allowing their
cherished pictures to be copied.
Photographs of early citizens are
included as a result of the
cooperation of the staff of the
Genealogy Department of the Fort
Worth Public Library -- Central
Library.
