Sand Lake Cemetery
Ellis County, Texas
Contributed by Kathey Kelley Hunt
It appears this cemetery once covered as much as 3/4 acres but there is only one readable tombstone still intact. There is another broken stone with no inscription, several rusted temporary Funeral Home markers, bricks, wooden slats and stumps marking graves. The area is littered with broken glassware. According to family members of the current land owners, there were other tombstones several years ago. It appears the area has been trampled by livestock.
This granite tombstone is on a slotted base, 23 inches high, 17 inches wide and 4 inches deep, rounded top. The marker has a Cross inscribed at the top.
